Shanti Volunteer Association (SVA) and Read Information and Resource Centre (READ Nepal) implement “The Project for Community-based Vocational and Technical Skill Development through Community Library and Resource Centers (CLRCs)” with funding support from the Government of Japan and other donors.
This project aims to establish CLRCs for education and improve the livelihood and employment status of the community members. The CLRCs under this project provide various skill development programs seamlessly, such as foundation skills, transferrable skills, and technical and vocational skills.
Skill Development Programs at CLRCs
Foundation skills development
Foundation skills such as literacy and numeracy are the basis for skill development. The project provides foundation skill development programs, such as literacy courses. The CLRCs also provide useful books and resources for the learners to retain and improve their literacy skills and to gain knowledge to improve their livelihood.
Transferrable skills (life skills) development
Transferrable skills (or life skills) refer to the skills, such as problem-solving, communication, creativity, and leadership, which are important for all to navigate their life and to make the most of technical and vocational skills. The project provides life-skill development programs for youths and women.
Technical and vocational skills development
The project provides various technical and vocational skills development programs, such as IT skill training, financial literacy training, entrepreneurship training and other livelihood improvement program. The project also facilitates other vocational and technical skill training upon the needs of the community.
