Navigator/ DIYO project

Navigator/ DIYO project
  • Project Area: Awareness on Safe Migration
  • Project Duration: 2021-04-01 to 2024-04-30
  • Donor: International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX)

In 2023, over 808,000 Nepalese left their homes to seek employment abroad. Many hoped to provide a better future for themselves and their families, but instead found themselves subject to exploitation and hazardous work conditions.  In an environment where many fraudulent labor recruiters are seeking to exploit vulnerable youth, READ CLRCs serve trusted, safe spaces where people can access reliable, unbiased information.

READ Nepal and IREX partnered to implement Navigator/DIYO program in 15 districts through 25 READ centers. This program aims to reach potential youth migrants, migrant workers, returnees, and their families through awareness interaction, digital and financial literacy training, and access to informational resources through a corner at the library known as the DIYO resource corner, where anyone can have access to IEC materials, electronic media, PSAs and counseling to increase the awareness on the process of safe migration, minimization of potential risks, and increased information and access to local employment opportunities.
